Evaluation of the Zero Suicide framework is ongoing at six Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) member health systems implementing Zero Suicide. Investigators embedded in the systems are working in collaboration to develop population-based process improvement metrics for use in, and comparison across, these and other health systems. This article articulates three key challenges in using health system data to assess suicide prevention activities and presents recommendations for standardization of care processes, documentation, screening tools, and Electronic Health Record entries.
