After a Suicide: A Toolkit for Schools
The death of a student by suicide poses unique challenges for school systems. However, schools also play an important in identifying other individuals who may be at increased risk for suicide as a result of their exposure to a suicide loss and in helping communities heal. Developed primarily for school administrators, this collaborative effort between the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, the Education Development Center and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention offers tools, templates and guidance on how to manage a crisis response including communications, social media, and memorialization, as well as grief support and cultural considerations. This resource can be adapted for use by communities and other systems.
