Tribal Boarding School Toolkit for Healing

The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board has created a valuable toolkit containing resources for understanding the historical context and impacts of U.S Indian boarding schools. Delving into past, present, and future traumas that have resulted from U.S. Indian boarding schools, this toolkit includes a discussion guide with examples and best practices on how to continue these difficult conversations.

The toolkit addresses suicide specifically as it pertains to AI/AN communities.  Native crisis lines, as well as information regarding decolonizing mental health and substance use disorder treatment, post-traumatic growth, and culture as a means of prevention, are highlighted in the “present” section of this resource.
